Elliott received a MSc in Chemistry from the University of Glasgow. He spent three years with his placement employers Charles River Laboratories Edinburgh, working in the Chemistry department’s method development team. Having established an interest in mass spectrometers during his time in industry, Elliott was inspired to undertake a PhD which combined controlling ion motion with an enthusiasm for astronomy and spectroscopy.
